ABOUT US

KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

IMPLOSION is hosted by Nick Saloman, front person of The Bevis Frond. Born and raised in London, England, Nick started buying records as a small child in the late 1950s and began going to gigs and playing in bands as a teen in the late 60s. IMPLOSION is simply an hour of Nick playing the music that he loves (psychedelia, rock, folk, beat, jazz, soul, punk, and more), with a bit of chat thrown in for good measure. Nick says: "If I like it, then there have got to be a few other people who will too.

Davis has interesting people, ideas, connections, and events. On Davisville, host Bill Buchanan presents stories that have some connection to Davis. The program has won 17 Excellence in Journalism awards from the San Francisco Press Club since 2018, including first place in radio/podcast public affairs programs for 2025, plus a national Hometown Media Award for excellence from the Alliance for Community Media in 2024. It was an honor and privilege to have Nico Novick (pictured) on the show today. Listen in as she explains the mission of the Acme Theatre, its upcoming production (The Curious Incident) and a few of her favorite songs.

The Acme Theatre Co. is a youth-led theater group run for and by young people in 9th to 12th grade, based in Davis. It says its mission is to present plays of excellent literary and artistic quality, while providing opportunities for young people to learn acting, technical theater, and leadership skills through peer and adult mentorship, in an environment of mutual trust, respect, and responsibility.

This fall’s annual movie show with Derrick Bang arrives with a few extras. To note his 50 years as a movie critic, he reads — and critiques! — the first paragraph of the first movie review he wrote, in 1974 for the California Aggie at UC Davis. We also hear from a film director who worried Derrick might not like his film. Plus we get Derrick’s usual take on movies to see and avoid this holiday film season, although he could only find a few, for reasons rooted in the current ambiguous state of filmmaking. Please, have a seat. We’re pulling back the curtains.
