Davis has linked the health of its parks to Measure DMon, 05/21/2012 - 5:30pm | Bill BuchananToday on Davisville we talk about Measure D, a parcel tax renewal on the city’s June ballot that would raise $1.37 million per year for parks maintenance in Davis. It is the second tax measure in the city this year, the first being the school tax that voters approved in March. The guests are Charlie Russell, a local businessman and chair of the city Recreation and Park Commission, and David Luckscheider, park manager for the city. Among other subjects, we look at why the city kept the rate at $49 per house, how the city ended up supporting park maintenance this way, and what the money pays for. |

Yes, today's show starts with pieces by two Czech composers: Dvorak's Carnaval Overture, and Smetana's ever-popular tone poem about his country's river, "The Moldau," pictured as it wends its way through a Czech city. Included are some standard wonders of classical music: Guitar concertos by Guiliani and Vivaldi, Mozart's regal Coronation Concerto for piano, Khachaturian's well-known concert Waltz from Masquerade, as well as lovely arias by Bellini and Tosti. Included are some miniature piano solos played by Van Cliburn: Liebestraum, Minute Waltz, and Fur Elise. Jump on board and float with Dr. Paul through Europe's musical countryside.
