Listening Lyrics Jul 25th, 2014 with Steve Kotarek & Naomi Rogers-Hefley

What a treat to have Steve Kotarek back in the studio. This time Steve will be accompinied by one of his bandmates, Naomi Rogers-Hefley

Steve has worked his way into the local music scene with his talent as a songwriter and uses his voice to convey a message in song. Steve lives in Woodland and his music is heard around northern California. Once you hear Steve perform you will be VERY tempted to pick up one of his CDs.

Naomi hails from the UK, recently moved to California. With her classical background, she brings a unique appoach to fiddle playing that complements Steve's music.

Davisville, 7/21/14: Sizing up the architecture of Davis

Davis doesn’t have a lot of natural beauty—we have great trees, but no dramatic mountains or river—so buildings are maybe more important here than they would be elsewhere, in terms of defining the look of the town. So, what makes good architectural design in Davis? What does Davis need more of, or less of? We talk about this today with Davis architect Robert Lindley, who over a 30-year career has designed many buildings in Davis and elsewhere (including Mishka’s Café, behind him in this photo).

Chambers Street Theatre for 11am on Jul 24th, 2014

Today Ruth reads from the Mark Twain Autobiography published after his death.  Chapter 2 talks about slavery as Twain knew it in his boyhood before the Civil War.  Then Ruth tells the story of her childhood when she stood on one side of a large canyon and listened to a Black Church on the other side of the canyon and how it affected her.  July 24 is a Civil Rights Anniversary.

Ruth also reads her comments on "The Ice Caps Are Melting," and how to prepare for rising water.
