The Golden Road for 7:00pm on Jul 27th, 2018

This week the Golden Road takes us to the Red Rock Amphitheater in Colorado for the Grateful Dead recorded live on September 7th, 1985. Red Rocks was, of course one, of those magical venues that the Dead played and always played great shows. This show is no exception and it has one of those crazy set lists that made 1985 so much fun.

Easan Katir and his Guitar Friday July 27, 2018

Witty, clever and a touch of humor, Easan Katir visits Listening Lyrics.. His guitar playing is superb and boy, can he tell a story through song. Easan is a Davis, CA resident and happens to be a neighbor of mine. Why you might ask did I wait so long?  No longer will his talents be hidden from us. Professionally Easan Katir owns an investment management firm and serves as a director for a Washington DC-based NGO.   Musically, he once upon a time played professionally in Las Vegas at the Aladdin. He composed songs which won awards at the Hollywood song-writing competition.

HIV/SHIV: early work at UCD with Dr Murray Gardner (7/26/2018)

AIDS Virus Diagnostic Laboratory -- the history of a successful scientific journey into retrovirus detection and treatment with Dr Murray Gardner.  Another fascinating story from a retired professor and doctor from UCD.  Although he "retired" in 2000 at age 70, Murray continues to go in to the office every day and help out. Worth a listen!

(below is a blurb from the UCD's California National Primate Research Center)

Thirty years ago, the CNPRC was at the forefront of discovering the role of retroviruses as the causative agent for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Dr. Murray Gardner, emeritus Professor of Pathology in the UC Davis School of Medicine, often refers to the CNPRC as the “home” of simian AIDS, as early isolates of retroviruses related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) were identified in colony animals and studied by researchers here.
