Davisville Apr 5th, 2010 Redux!

Here's a view of Davis you rarely see -- the way the town looks from the rear of a train headed north from the Davis train station to the edge of town. "Davisville" host Bill Buchanan shot this video from the rear of a special California Northern passenger train in March 2010. The railroad operated the one-car train for local officials and other guests to highlight the arrival of California Northern's new, environmentally advanced engines. (When the engines are off duty, they're often parked on the tracks near the Davis Food Co-op on G Street.) The northern line hasn't hosted a regular passenger train in more than 25 years. Buchanan interviewed California Northern General Manager Don Seil about the railroad for the April 5th "Davisville." The accompanying video however, was just finally brought to light. Enjoy!

Alex Roth discusses the Pepper Peddler, his bike-powered Davis coffee business

Alex Roth, who started and operates the Pepper Peddler coffee roaster in Davis, talks about the business on the current edition of Davisville.

The Pepper Peddler has attracted attention for its unusually green business practices—it delivers by bicycle, distributes in re-usable glass jars and uses a pedal-powered roaster. But Roth, a musician and graduate of UC Davis, runs it as a serious business, with all the problems, satisfaction and attention to detail a small business usually involves.
