Roots, Shoots and Leaves' DJ Tree has a theory of music that involves a tree. Suffice it to say that it involves a trinity — an exploration of themes and connections among recording artists — and otherwise very few boundaries. Listen for music old and new, known and unknown. And if you listen long enough, you may experience some musical enlightenment.

Every week, the big blue train we call the Blue Light Central rumbles out of the station for an hour-long ride through a landscape of blues, classic R&B, soul, gospel, zydeco, and low-down boogie. Mark Drnek is your ticket agent, porter, engineer, brakeman, and conductor on a weekly excursion through the vast music landscape.

Night Train Cocktail Lounge

A saloon of songs and sounds from back then, focusing on anything recorded between the 1890s and the 1970s. All forms of jazz, blues, rock, surf, garage, punk, country, folk, film-radio-television samples, speeches, comedy, and anything grabbed from the ages and put to cylinder, wax or tape, colliding on top each other.

Night Train Cocktail Lounge is produced live at WXOX-LP FM in Louisville, KY. All local material is edited, including times and dates, making each episode an evergreen episode. All episodes are FCC compliant.

This episode of Hello Davis! features Brett Lee of the Davis Downtown Business Association talking with John Natsoulas, a well-known figure in the Davis arts community best recognized as the founder and director of the John Natsoulas Gallery downtown.

Since opening the gallery in 1986, he has helped establish it as one of Northern California’s important spaces for contemporary art. Located on First Street, the gallery functions not only as an exhibition venue but also as a cultural gathering place where artists, writers, musicians, and community members come together.

After years of dwindling news coverage in Yolo County, two regional news outlets — the Sacramento Bee and Abridged, a news source started by Sacramento public TV station KVIE in 2025 — have each launched free Yolo weekly newsletters this year, using stories written by journalists assigned to cover the county.

Today we talk with one of the reporters, Daniel Hennessy of Abridged, about how he finds and reports stories, and why Yolo is now getting more attention. He plans to cover the entire county, and his topics so far include the respite center on L Street in Davis, a proposed downtown entertainment zone in Winters, the county’s budget deficit, and fly-fishing on Putah Creek.
