On this day in 1969 the BEATLES released the album ABBEY ROAD. So in commeration of that lets play some covers of those songs that are all ingrained in our collective music memory bank. Some fun facts and stories will be told as well since after all, it was ABBEY ROAD, that saw the BEATLES for the last time together in the studio.
JUSTIN COX is your host for this week. Brand New is an alternative rock band from Long Island, New York. Formed in 2000, the band currently consists of vocalist/guitarist/lyricist Jesse Lacey, guitarist/vocalist/lyricist Vincent Accardi, bassist Garrett Tierney, and drummer Brian Lane.
In the late 1990s, Jesse Lacey, Garrett Tierney, and Brian Lane were all members of the band The Rookie Lot. They eventually split off from the other members of the group, and in 2000 formed Brand New in Merrick, New York. The band signed to Triple Crown Records and in 2001 released their debut studio album, Your Favorite Weapon. Their second album, Deja Entendu, was released in 2003 and marked a stylistic change for the band. The album's first two singles, "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" and "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades", both received airplay on MTV2 and Fuse TV, entering the top 40 on the United Kingdom Singles Chart. Deja Entendu was eventually certified gold in the United States.
Sometimes young talent needs a little polishing, but in the case of singer/songwriter CASEY GROAT he comes to us with a shine that begs to be heard. Casey enjoys a natural stage presence along with the tunes that he crafts. Picking away at his guitar shows us that young talent is worth more then a listen but worth our attention.
Join me for an hour with Casey.

WHAT IS DEAD WAX? WHAT IS DEAD WAX? WHAT IS DEAD WAX? WHAT IS DEAD WAX?
Dead Wax is the area on vinyl records between the last 'band'/track on the record and the label, varies greatly from one record company to the other, regarding value as well as quantity of useful information. The dead wax data on the products of smaller labels are often written manually; i.e., by hand.
Sara is your host this week and her album is by SPOON. SPOON was formed in late 1993 by the lead singer and guitarist Britt Daniel and the drummer Jim Eno, after the two met as members of The Alien Beats. The name Spoon was chosen to honor the 1970s German avant-garde band Can, whose hit song "Spoon" was the theme song to the 1985 movie Das Messer aka Jagged Edge in the United States. Eno describes Spoon's music as "psychedelic."
Eliza Gilkyson is a politically minded, poetically gifted singer-songwriter who has become one of the most respected musicians in folk and Americana music circles. The daughter of legendary songwriter Terry Gilkyson, Eliza entered the music world as a teenager, recording demos for her father. Since then she has released 20 recordings of her own, and her songs have been covered by such notables as Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, Tom Rush and Rosanne Cash.
KDRT's POP UP show "Live in the Loam" is thrilled to have this very talented Australian band visit us in the studio. Melbourne deep-pop thinkers Dick Diver triumphed in 2013 with second album Calendar Days, the follow-up to 2011 debut New Start Again. Warm, wide, and inviting, Calendar Days is a magnificent Australian pop album, hailed as one of the year’s finest.
KDRT will host a live in-studio appearance with Colin Gilmore. Colin grew up in Lubbock, Texas, spending many nights as a child in nightclubs like Stubbs, where he witnessed songwriters like Joe Ely, Terry Allen, and his own father, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, bring the stage to life. He developed a taste for Buddy Holly, Townes Van Zandt, and bands like The Clash and The Pogues. For 13 years, Colin has been informed by these observations, writing songs and playing under his own name.
His last album Goodnight Lane won fans across the world and critical acclaim, including 4-star reviews in Mojo and Uncut. The songwriting style he is creating has developed at its own pace and has emphasized uniqueness and truth above immediate public response. His star quality, both in live performances and songwriting, is understated but real. And he's just getting started.
