This hurts.

Peter Schiffman, one-half of KDRT's The Folk Brothers, a man loved and respected in countless hearts, homes, communities and towns, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 26.

We send our love and condolences to his family and friends, and to all the dogs he loved so very much.

While Folk Brother Bill is away traveling, KDRT DJ Rodriguez honored Peter's love for music and KDRT during this week's Folk Brothers broadcast.

Peter's daughter posted this announcement to his Facebook page:

Today we have radio plays performed live from Technocult Radio Theater, produced by the students of TCS 112, a radio production class at UC Davis.

First up, about 8 minutes in: "Kardashian Dinner Party," followed by "Insert Group Name Here."

Today on Implosion: More of the best music you never knew -- rock 'n' roll 'n' soul 'n' more -- including tunes from The Accent, Mickie Most & the Gear, and the Seclusions, as a start.

Our very own Frank Fox, host of The Wild Fox Party at 10 a.m. every Tuesday, was in the middle of the doo-wop sound in New York. Now he has single-handedly put together a doo-wop happening to benefit Davis store Watermelon Music, with performances by several groups, a sing-along, and more. The groups include Zest, Tune Up, The Davis Local Vocals, and Frankie & Friends.

It happens this Friday, May 26, 7:30-10 p.m. at Watermelon Music, 1970 Lake Blvd., Davis. There's no cover charge, but all donations will go to Watermelon!

This week's Na Mele o Hawai'i  opens with a tribute in memoriam and support to the victims of the recent attacks in Davis. Music has its legitimate place in the healing process, and we hope our offering of Hawaiian music, filled with aloha, can help in that process.

For the remainder of the show, we celebrate Mother's Day (May 14) with a shower of mele all about pua -- flowers. Enjoy!

We as a community continue to process the extremely sad news of David Breaux's death. His devotion to compassion inspired the creation of the Compassion Corner Earthbench at 3rd and C streets downtown, which is a local landmark to many. David was slain in Central Park on Thursday just a day before the 10th anniversary of the "community work party" that constructed the Earthbench. The Davis Enterprise is reporting the story, which it has already updated several times.

Thousands of people talked with David, mostly as he stood at 3rd and C for several years in all weather, but also for newspaper articles or broadcast programs. He appeared twice on Davisville, KDRT's longstanding public affairs program, in June 2010 and again for a follow-up discussion in December 2013, in which he explained what brought him to Davis, why he stood at 3rd and C, his deep commitment to compassion, and what he wanted to achieve. By 2013, his vigil had grown into a much larger effort.

We've got rare tunes on the latest Implosion with Nick Saloman, including songs from The Moontrekkers, Electric Sandwich, Paul Jones, The Busters, and more.

But these tunes'll be a little less rare for you if you tune in to this week's show.

A ceilidh is a Scottish or Irish social gathering, and a great one is coming up this Friday, April 28, with Paddy on the Binge at Morgan's Mill in Woodland, from 6 to 9 p.m.
