The Folk Brothers, May 31, 2023: Remembering Brother Peter

Music programs are only online for two weeks after they are broadcast.

Today’s show honors Peter Schiffman, late co-host with Bill Wagman of The Folk Brothers. Peter died unexpectedly on Friday, May 26. Bill is away, and Rodriguez, host of KDRT program Silver Nine Volt Heart, fills in with music and warm remembrances of our friend and fellow Davis programmer.

“Peter, we’re going to miss you a lot here,” Rod says toward the end of the hour. “Thank you for your contributions to radio, particularly KDRT and also KDVS, and your love of music, and your love of live music in Davis.”

You can say many good things about Peter, including the happiness he got from his love of dogs. This love helps the show “end with a smile,” Rod says — by playing a song Peter Rowan performs about dogs, “Drop the Bone.”

Here's this week's setlist:

The Band -- I Shall Be Released

Richard & Linda Thompson -- When I Get To The Border

Jorma Kaukonen -- I'll Be Alright

Emmy Lou Harris & The Nash Ramblers -- Hard Times

John Prine -- I Remember Everything

Pete Seeger -- Sailing Down My Golden River

Iris DeMent -- These Hills

Dave Alvin & Christy McWilson -- Manzanita

Bob Dylan -- Mr. Tambourine Man

Mavis Staples -- Losing You

Joan Baez -- Forever Young

Richie Lawrence & Katie Thomas -- Play On

Emmy Lou Harris -- Goodbye

Peter Rowan -- Drop The Bone
