High Country Music Radio 'Will the Circle Be Unbroken'

This week's High Country Music Radio will feature songs from "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," a 1972 album that introduced many of us to bluegrass and old-time country music. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band wanted to play alongside their bluegrass heroes and bring together two generations of musicians. The Nashville- and Appalachian-based artists include Roy Acuff, Mother Mabelle Carter, Doc Watson, Merle Travis, Norman Blake, Vassar Clements, and others. The result is a critically acclaimed album recorded with minimal processing, retaining much of the musician's dialogue between songs.

A Message from High Country Music Radio

As the outbreak of COVID-19 leaves most  of us doing business from makeshift offices and living room couches, it’s anything but business as usual.

That goes for our programming at KDRT 95.7 fm. With the exception of Autumn Labbe-Renault’s excellent community report of COVID-19, broadcast live Tuesday and Friday from 12:00 to 12:30, we’re relying on rebroadcasts of previous shows.

Our hardworking management and technical staff - all working remotely - are doing what they can to bring us back on air with live broadcasting, most likely from our couch or kitchen.

So thank you for listening and we “hope you’re well.”

Rusty Nail - High Country Music Radio

High Country Music Radio Alt Country and Bluegrass

Country, blues and old time music tell a story of hurt and pain and the struggles we deal with, an expression of life experiences, good and bad.

When current events seem overwhelming, sanctuary can be found within our music and friendships. The playlist on this week’s High Country Music Radio will feature Americana country and bluegrass artists such as Emmylou Harris, The Lowest Pair and Ward Davis, and songwriters such as Guy Clark, who offer a reflective, more melancholy, tone.

Boot Juice in the Studio on High Country Music Radio - Tuesday March 3rd - 11 a.m. - noon

Evan Daly and Connor Herdt from the Davis-based traveling band Boot Juice joined DJ Rusty Nail in studio this Tuesday, March 3rd. We listen to tracks from the band’s first album "Speaking in Tones" as well as selections from their musical influences including Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, Railroad Earth, Doc Watson and others. They also discuss their upcoming album project as the band returns to the studio to begin producing a second album.  Boot Juice is appearing live this Saturday evening, March 7th, 7 pm at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall. This event is an album fundraising show.
