Breaking news from our friends at Prometheus Radio: Thousands of community groups rejoice at new opportunity for locally owned media WASHINGTON, DC – Today a bill to expand community radio nationwide – the Local Community Radio Act – passed the U.S. Senate, thanks to the bipartisan leadership of Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and John McCain (R-AZ). This follows Friday afternoon’s passage of the bill in the House of Representatives, led by Representatives Mike Doyle (D-PA) and Lee Terry (R-NE). Singer, Song writer Tish Hinojosa was interviewed on ART+ about her folk music which crosses many borders; Tish talked about her new country music album 'Our Little Planet' and about her classic, award winning, bi-lingual album (& book) for children 'Every Child'. Tish has been a successful singer and song writer over the past 25 years; this is quite an accomplishment considering that she is the youngest of 13 children and that her parents were very hard working immigrants. Tish grew up listening to music on her parents' radio; she is a very big fan of radio and of community radio.
Tish Hinojosa's radio show will be broadcast on December 22 at noon and re-broadcast on December 29th.

Vanessa Graber from Prometheus Radio Project was my guest. She says Prometheus has been working hard to lift "anonymous holds" placed on the Local Community Radio Act (S. 592) in the Senate. The legislation would allow the FCC to open an application window for as many as 1000 new Low-Power FM licenses, just like KDRT. Senators in Wyoming, Utah and Texas have been convinced to stop "holding" but the latest suspect is Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama. This past Monday Prometheus performed circus tricks including juggling and hula-hooping outside the headquarters of the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington, DC.
