This week Listening Lyrics will explore the lyrics and music of Sting.
The play list will include several covers from the jazz genre of Stings music along with Sting teaming up with some of todays best talents.
Sting has varied his musical style throughout his career, incorporating distinct elements of jazz, reggae, classical, New Age, and worldbeat into his music. Sting has received 16 Grammy Awards for his work.
I am pumped up to share his story and music with you.

This Wednesday, October 17th, the legendary "Walkin' Talkin' Rockin'" Lee Renault...host of KDRT's Eclectic Dinosaur show...joins me in the 'Dirt studio for an hour of old time Rock 'n Roll, the Blues and even a touch of Doo-Wop on The Grapevine. This will be our 3rd joint broadcast together and there's no telling where the highway will lead this time! Additionally, we are going to do our best to play nothing but good, old vinyl.

This month 50 years ago the first song sold on a new label was "Lonely Bull" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.
A&M records was founded by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. They created a record label with the artist in mind.
This hour will be spent exploring the talents A&M brought to us.

Music tonight from the 1940’s to 2011.
Starting with piano: Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Earl Hines, and Count Basie and his Orchestra.
Some sax by Sidney Bechet, Chet Baker with Gerry Mulligan, Ben Webster, Gene Ammons with Sonny Stitt.
Guitar by Gabor Szabo. A 1968 piece by The Modern Jazz Quartet.
And finishing with a 2011 song by Andrea Wolper with Ken Filiano.

Tonight, there are two shows happening that I feel privileged to attend.

Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers, Skull Orchard, Pine Valley Cosmonauts) and friends Jean Cook (Mekons), Walter Salas-Humara (The Silos) and the Black Elvis himself, the Koori King of Country, Australia’s own Roger Knox will play in DLMC co-founder David Horning's back yard. 7-9pm

Then.. heading over to see The Head & The Heart at Sophia's 9-11pm. Seattle indie folk-pop band touring after their set at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass this past weekend.

Coming up October 10, 2012 on Listening Lyrics guest author Jessica Kristie will be sharing the music that has inspired her career.

Davis citizens are a mobile bunch, and this means we sometimes have to say good-bye. We offer a fond farewell to DJ AA and Vincent with “Empire Radio,” who have moved on to the Bay Area. Ted and Josh of “The Recollection” are on hiatus at present but rumor has it they plan to return in January. Congratulations to Ted, who welcomed his first son this summer.

The good news here is that change is good, as it opens up new room and opportunities. We have quite a few new shows on KDRT, as well as some old favorites in new spaces. Check the list below to see what's airing on your community radio station, and to see the whole schedule, visit kdrt.org.
