In honor of the 2011 Davis Feminist Film Festival Thursday and Friday, the April 12 program of Jazz After Dark (8 pm) is a tribute to the great women of jazz: female jazz vocalists spanning the 20th Century and beyond. We’ll start with Bessie Smith (1894 – 1937) and finish with Norah Jones.

Contemporary recording artists include: Etta James (Miss Peaches); Cyndi Lauper, from her new Memphis Blues album; Cassandra Wilson; Dianne Reeves; Diana Krall; Madeleine Peyroux; and Norah Jones, the top-selling jazz recording artist of the last decade.
