How about we listen to Phish? Best of Show, 2012...Sun, 09/09/2012 - 7:00pm | RadhaJust because I was there does not mean I can't be impartial when I say that this was absolutely the best triad of shows this year. The sweet and gnarly sounds of Phish ricocheting from hallowed wall to hallowed wall at our beloved Bill Graham Civic Center? Um, let me think about that for a minute ... Oh yes, a tremendously good time was had by all present in person and at home on couch tour. Tonight, we play August 17th, otherwise known as Totally Debaucherous Night One. Have a great show! |
As humans, we feel sorrow when a loved one passes away. But we also want to celebrate that person's life as is seen in this picture of a New Orleans jazz funeral. The Czech people have a similar tradition, called a "Dumky." Dr. Paul starts the second hour of today's show with Dvorak's happy/sad/manic/beautiful Dumky piano trio. The show begins with a rousing overture by Offenbach. In addition, you will hear "The Prayer," a duet featuring the voices of Andrea Boccelli and Celine Dion. Yo-Yo Ma plays a Shostakovitch cello concerto. Two baroque flute sonatas are on the program, as well as Gershwin's memorable "An American in Paris." Check out the playlist:
