The Golden Road for 7:00pm on Nov 2nd, 2018Fri, 11/02/2018 - 9:05pm | Lee MaddexThis week the Golden Road returns to one of our favorite venues, the Rochester War Memorial for Grateful Dead music recorded live on November 7th, 1985. The RWM was the scene of many great GD shows in the seventies and eighties. Sadly, this show and the following night were the last Dead shows at this venerable hall. The hit Touch Of Grey spelled the end to shows at the smaller more intimate venues and arenas and stadiums were the only venues large enough to handle the new audience. Tonight’s show was smack dab in the middle of the very well-played 1985 Fall tour. While the setlist is pretty standard 80s fare but the Boys were having fun on this night and the music reflects this. Jerry’s voice is a little rough here and there (it was much better than the Summer tour), but he made up for this with some outstanding playing. Plus we will hear a touch of Richmond November 1st, 1985. |
The Big Poppies in the studio, recorded Nov 2nd, 2018Fri, 11/02/2018 - 5:05pm | Pieter PastoorThis was EPIC. The Big Poppies are one of northern California's favorite bands and were in the studio with us. (In the studio 2/3rd of the Big Poppies, Chris Preston and Max Van Dyke). Their music is contagious with a heavy influence of blues, rock and throw in a bit of funk. Their stage presence is electrifying. If that is not enough, all of the band members are spot on talented musicians. Influences include the likes of Vance Joy, Alabama Shakes, Gary Clark Jr., The Black Keys, Daft Punk, just to name a few. On this show we will focus in on their new CD release |

Cowboy Tracks for 1:00pm on Nov 2nd, 2018Fri, 11/02/2018 - 2:05pm | Nancy Flagg“In the Saddle.” Today's show is named after the first song, "I Make My Livin' in the Saddle", but there are other saddle-time songs, such as Cricket Roll from Trinity Seely and Ride the Wind by Dawn Anita. There are also a few cowboy poems by Mark Munzert and Al "Doc" Mehl and many other great western works that well represent the genre. There are sure to be some that tug on your heartstrings and others that will have you tapping your feet! |
