Kishi Bashi's Lighght

Lighght (pronounced “light”) is Kishi Bashi’s second full-length album and it came out in May of ‘13. It’s an eclectic mix of music and – in a departure from my previous practice of playing concept albums about death and the meaning of life here on AotW – I have yet to figure out why all these songs work together so well. Tune in to find out exactly why my special guests chose the album for the show. We will be unwrapping and playing the vinyl!

Spoiler alert: it's mainly because of one song about a protagonist who falls in love with a steak that features the lines:

Mr. Steak, he's such a bachelor at heart
He never met another cut
Who liked to booty booty shake it shake.

My special guests are six years old. Literally.

“Lighght" the title is taken from a one-word poem by Aram Saroyan written in 1965. Kishi Bashi’s first album was funded through Kickstarter, called 151a, and featured the hit single “Bright Whites” (here's a Youtube link to the video).

Join us this Thursday (4/2) as we explore Lighght and what it is that makes it so great.
