Davisville, Nov. 18, 2019: Streaming, theaters, and fall movies with Davis critic Derrick Bang

Today I welcome back Derrick Bang for our ninth annual talk about movies. This time we cover streaming, the increased supply of films, the appeal of watching a good movie with hundreds of others in a large theater, six movies he’s looking forward to this holiday season, and three he isn’t – including Playmobil: The Movie and a remake of the 1974 slasher film Black Christmas. An entertaining critic who’s as comfortable skewering a turkey as he is appraising a masterpiece or waving away a mediocrity, Derrick writes reviews for the Davis Enterprise and his blog Derrick Bang on Film.

Live Tracks Highlights a Decade of Thursday Live! Recordings - Part 1

This week, Live Tracks focuses almost entirely on Yolo County bands, from shows recorded during the monthly Thursday Live! concert series at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall. In November 2009, Jim recorded his first Thursday Live! concert, with the Rita Hosking Trio, and the rest is history -- at an average of 9 shows per year, the total exceeds 90 two-hour concerts recorded, mixed, and broadcast on KDRT Thursday evenings during Live Tracks. This week's episode covers a lot of ground, and samples popular local bands such as The Cups, Rita Hosking Trio, The Muddy Waders, the legendary Clarence Van Hook with Cedar Seeger, The West Nile Ramblers, Bonanza King, The Davis "Odd Stars" from the 2018 British Invasion Concert, the Golden Cadillacs, and a special recording of Mumbo Gumbo from the November 2018 Fire Relief Benefit.

StnrKrew on Listening Lyrics - Hip Hop, Recorded Nov. 1, 2019

The Hip Hop group StnrKrew showed up a little late, but arrived at the 14:30 minute mark. It was a great hour and includes an original rap song performed live.

StnrKrew Music is four artists who love hip hop and a variety of old rock 'n' roll type music, growing up in Las Vegas and different parts of California. DocSinister, JetLagg, MoonChild, and DaVinciiHendriXX have come together accompanied by good friend Dj Morfintime to recreate and reignite the fire in lyrical, punchline, battle rap-style BARs, putting rhythm and raw words together as one to exceed the level set by previous rap legends. With idols such as MacMiller, Tupac, Biggie, Eminem, and so sooooo much more, the bar is set very high!
