Join host Ruth Chambers as she shares stories from 1800 to 1920 in the dialogue and dialects of the time as written by the authors. You'll hear Gold Rush and Wild West Stories, Tall Tales, and plenty of Mark Twain. Some of the stories were written by the reader herself! Tune in, sit back, and enjoy a taste of simpler times.
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Apr 7th, 2016Thu, 04/07/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersAnd the California Gold Rush humor continues... The Po8 of the Gold Hills was known as Black Bart and he wrote some mighty fine poems, as well as naming himself a "Po8." Swell poems are read and Wells Fargo Stage Coach robberies are recounted. In the end, Black Bart was caught by a telling handkerchief. Listen in for this dry tale of gain and loss. |
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Mar 31st, 2016Thu, 03/31/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersToday is a good day for a laugh. Some of the Gold Rush stories are true, but also very funny, too. There was a man named Pete from the Pacific Islands who found out about hot air balloons. It was his plan to sail home in the Pacific by a homemade hot air balloon. He did a good job of making the balloon, and even got the balloon in the air, but he did not land on a Pacific Island. He landed in a Sierra Neveda tree. Tune in for this charming true tale. |
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Mar 24th, 2016Mon, 03/28/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersHere we are with "Huck Finn" again. And this is the Easter Show 'cause it shows how Huck learned to be the basicly good person he was. We're in Chapter 15, and he realizes he needs to be more careful with his jokes if he's to be as fine as Jim. Lessons we can all learn by. |
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Mar 24th, 2016Thu, 03/24/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersAnd this is March 24, 2016, also. We are repeating this show since it's the Easter Show. Look above for the other March 24 and the description. Happy Easter. |
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Mar 17th, 2016Thu, 03/17/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersAnd once again we are reading from "Huck Finn" by Mark Twain. Huck was raised by an abusive Pa who did teach Huck how to get along living off the land. As we will hear, it was Jim who taught Huck how to treat people and have a good heart. Listen in for today's reading to hear it from Twain. |

Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Mar 3rd, 2016Thu, 03/03/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersWe are still in "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," and Huck and Tom meet up again. Together they are going to free Jim. With Tom comes his very involved "freeing" plot that Tom believes is the way to do things. It's good to remember that Twain meant this book to be a boys adventure book, and the Tom character is based on a real child from Twain's past. |
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Feb 25th, 2016Thu, 02/25/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersAnd we're off to join the Circus, well at least as it was in the late 1800's. We are with Huck Finn as he sees his first Circus, and is he impressed! We will be too. Later Huck works a show with the Duke and King -- which is quite different. Tune in to join the fun. |
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Feb 18th, 2016Thu, 02/18/2016 - 1:35pm | Ruth ChambersAnd here's some more "Huck Finn." This time it's Chapter 17 so let's get going for a good time as Huck meets some folks in the middle of neighborly discussin'. |
Chambers Street Theatre for 11:00am on Feb 18th, 2016Thu, 02/18/2016 - 11:35am | Ruth ChambersWith careful note, you will see a repeat of Feb. 18...well, go to the next Feb. 18 for Feb. 18 description. It's a technical time so let's make the best of it. |

Thanks to all the folk I meet in town who recognize my voice and say how much they like my show. I like every one of you and we always have a nice chat about Mark Twain. You all are the best of people.
Here's our offering for your collection. It's an ode to our kitty Katie ...
A wonderfully warm Katie Cat
would come running whenever you sat.
She'd rumble and purr,
and had wonderful fur
to cuddle and nuzzle and pat.
