For a long time I was absolutely idiotic,
by which I mean I lashed and pulsed
like the cosmos of tissue at present on fire
inside the bodies of my students—
it being springtime, it being the season
of being naked under the cherry trees.
I'm not saying dig a hole and fall in it;
I'm not saying buy a cabin and a nanny goat
and walk around re-naming the forget-me-nots
after the lovers who said they'd slay you
and, well, did—for who ever heard
of a plant named Greg? Nevertheless,
sex is laughable; it's ultimately ridiculous;
it's what God invented since he couldn't have
Comedy Central. And still the young people
who aren't pushing their tongues
against the tongues of others
are weeping like babies
being prodded with thermometers
for the lack of good tongues
to lean their own tongues against.

Chris Dunford, who will retire this year as president of Davis-based Freedom from Hunger, is a return guest on the current edition of “Davisville” on KDRT 95.7 FM.

Dunford last appeared on the program in early 2010. This time he draws a few lessons from his long career, updates news from Haiti and other topics from last year, and discusses whether he thinks the world is better, the same, or worse than it was when he started at the international charity nearly 30 years ago.

“Davisville,” hosted by Bill Buchanan, is recorded at Davis Media Access. The program airs at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, and 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. You can also find it at http://www.kdrt.org/node/4642.

I was introduced to a new artist recently, Nicolas Jaar. Really liking it. I have also been really into James Blake. And the ever lovable Tipper. His new album Broken Soul Jamboree is amazing.!!!

This mortal world has lost a helluva man today, but at the same time there is a new angel out there looking after all of us. Now, he may not look like your typical angel...but believe me, his spirit touched many.

In this edition of the Dinner Bell Roundup we went off the tracks and pulled a bunch of tunes off of the shelf of life and just let 'em roll.

George Moore, friend and mentor to so many of us here at KDRT/Davis Media Access, passed away this morning. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife Diane, his children and his extended family. Our community here is sad and rocked by thinking about a KDRT without George. I could tell you about George, who played show tunes, or jazz, or segments of historical Jewish radio. Or George, who helmed the KDRT Steering Committee and served on the Davis Media Access board of directors for several years. George, who opened his home for countless meetings, plodded through a rewrite of the DMA Bylaws with me, who helped me navigate ADA compliance for our new ramp at this building, who wrote policy, raised money, and vetted programming proposals. He did all of this, for years on end. He was a tireless advocate for KDRT, a fierce fighter when the chips were down, and a fun companion when it was time to celebrate.

The City of Davis presents an all-ages concert this Friday, January 21st, 7:30 pm at the Veteran's Memorial Theatre. Headlining the event will be Hardwater, a popular local band that plays an eclectic mix of folk and roots, rock and blues. Hardwater has been a longtime supporter of KDRT and headlined the DMA 20th anniversary celebration, On the Backlot in 2008. The show will close with the Davis youth band Smack Jupiter, a lively group comprised of 7th and 9th graders.
