“Western Writers: Top Song Picks.” A few years back, the members of Western Writers of America voted on the Top 100 Western Songs of All Time. This week, DJ Nancy will play her selections from the lower half of the “100” list and then next week, she’ll pull the best of the best from the top half. Because the Top 100 songs were chosen by writers, we’ll focus on the song lyrics.

As part of the Davis 2nd Friday ArtAbout, KDRT 95.7FM will be broadcasting LIVE from Armadillo Music at 6:30PM with Mike Blanchard & the Californios. A Country and Western band, playing traditional Americana and unabashedly proud of their California roots. Founded by Mike Blanchard of The Tattooed Love Dogs, a band that has been playing the west coast for over 20 years, the band plays an Americana grab bag with a mix of originals, gospel, and honky tonk as well as covers of their favorite artists from both old and new.

The Mindfull visits KDRT

Brett Vaughn (of The Mindful ) uses his passion in music to "find meaning in an often meaningless culture". Brett says If experimentalism is defined as "the philosophical belief that the way to truth is through experiments and empiricism", then the Mindful aim to be a musical expression of this belief. Founded by Berklee College of Music alum Brett Vaughn, The Mindful plays with sounds, styles and musical approaches at will, making use of primarily rock and jazz influences while also offering funk and Americana vibes. Not merely instrumental-based music, Vaughn's colorful lyrics narrate a vast and varied display of songwriting prowess and discovery.
