Tomorrow's segment of "Speakeasy" highlights the Cool Davis Green Living Festival which takes place this Saturday.

In solidarity with 10-10-10 climate actions worldwide, organizers are planning a festival event that connects low-carbon lifestyle choices with a healthy environment, personal well-being, international eco-justice, and a thriving community. The festival is billed as a time of inspiration, fun, education, and celebration. Lynne Nittler, who is involved with Cool Davis Initiative and serves on the board of the Cool Davis Foundation.

Speakeasy features good conversation with folks doing interesting work in Davis and beyond. Autumn Labbe-Renault hosts. Speakeasy airs live alternate Wednesdays at 10 a.m. You can also listen to this program live or archived at kdrt.org.

Getting ready for the autumn (my favorite season, natch), I'm reflecting on a sunny smile from a sunny summer moment. Here's George Moore, KDRT programmer and volunteer extraordinaire, at the July 4th beer concession in Community Park. George spearheaded the effort to organize our volunteer booth there, and shepherded us through the permits and process. A big KDRT thanks to you, George! And a shout out to Rod Moseanko and his friends and family, who all helped out, as well as Lois Richter for the decorations and setup, and all the other KDRT and DMA volunteers who spend the day helping serve up foam & suds. Just past the bin of pastel baby socks and underwear, there are some 49-dollar Chinese-made TVs;

one of them singing news about a far-off war,
one comparing the breast size of an actress from Hollywood

to the breast size of an actress from Bollywood.
And here is my niece Lucinda,

who is nine and a true daughter of Texas,
who has developed the flounce of a pedigreed blonde

and declares that her favorite sport is shopping.
Today is the day she embarks upon her journey,

swinging a credit card like a scythe
through the meadows of golden merchandise.

Today is the day she stops looking at faces,
and starts assessing the labels of purses;

So let it begin. Let her be dipped in the dazzling bounty
and raised and wrung out again and again.

And let us watch.

Between my knee surgery and a trip to Montana for a family reunion I've left you listening to lots of old shows (I'm sure you're tired of the old "summer" show).

It is my pleasure to host a visit to the KDRT studio by the legendary Doug James of The Hucklebucks, one of Sacramento's very best blues bands from a LONG time back. The Hucklebucks have played all over the greater Tri-County region and to points beyond. Winners of the Sacramento News & Review SAMMIES award for Best Blues Band, these guys have a new record out called "Juke Box Blues". They will be playing a record release party at Sacramento's infamous Torch Club on Friday, September 24th, but listeners of KDRT and The Grapevine can hear a special preview of "Juke Box Blues" on August 12th....LIVE from 7 to 8 p.m. Doug will not only hand pick some tunes from "Juke Box Blues", but will also spin some tunes from some of his favorite blues musicians that absolutely "stop time". Join us on K-DIRT for some cool sounds and an exclusive listen to the new record from The Hucklebucks. Doug will also be ringing up a copy of "Juke Box Blues" to a listener on the air.
