Special Fundraiser for KDRT at Sophia’s Thai Kitchen, Thursday June 20, 2019, starting at 8 p.m.
Live music will entertain folks on Sophia's outdoor porch. Three awesome acts will help you enjoy your beer, all the while raising some needed funds for KDRT. KDRT prides itself in bringing local voices to the forefront. Stop by, take in the tunes, and “see” some great sounds. The lineup is Roger Kunkel, 8-8:30 p.m.; Calvin Handy/Hot Pursuit 8:45-9:45 p.m.; Didar Singh Khalsa 10-10:30 p.m.
Roger Kunkel, 8-8:30 p.m.: Roger Kunkel plays the guitar, both acoustic and electric. He also sometimes plays the mandolin and he might even own a banjo. Formerly of Thin White Rope and Acme Rocket Quartet, Roger has played guitar for over 40 years. Currently he plays with Mike Blanchard and the Californios, Smoke Shovelers, and the Toadmortons. As a soloist, Roger performs on acoustic guitar, delivering a mix of bluegrass instrumentals, jazz standards, things in between, and things outside. He is currently celebrating the release of his latest CD, "Solo Guitar."
Hot Pursuit, 8:45-9:45 p.m.: Hot Pursuit (led by Calvin Handy) is a funky jazz band that people can relate to, with engaging rhythm and tone that music lovers know and crave. Their performance will place a special mark on this evening.
Didar Singh Khalsa, 10-10:30 p.m.: Didar Singh Khalsa has played guitars for 52 years, but only six years ago started writing songs, singing and recording them. He's been inspired by six consecutive trips to the guitar/songwriting camp taught by the amazing Richard Thompson. He claims the muse is relentless. Let’s test that theory.
