Has the university been in touch with the Sabini/Powers family about Lincoln’s Loop?
Yes, UC Davis has been in communication with the family following the tragedy. We are aware of their support for Lincoln’s Loop and appreciate their thoughtful and heartfelt advocacy.
Will the university commit to Lincoln’s Loop? Why or why not?
Many thoughtful proposals for safety enhancements and ideas on ways to honor Lincoln have been submitted to UC Davis leadership.
UC Davis constantly evaluates information, such as community input and collision investigation reports, to inform our approach to designing safer transit corridors and educational efforts for our community.
The UC Davis Police Department and outside law enforcement partners are conducting a thorough investigation. We believe it is important that any long-term decisions are informed by those findings.
What kind of outreach has the university done beyond the press release? Is the university committed to further outreach efforts?
The draft Moving Forward Together plan was started in 2023 and reflects more than a year of engagement, not a single announcement. The press release was one of several ways the university has shared information over time.
Engagement has included over 3,000 participants, dozens of pop-up events, open houses, and tabling efforts, classroom visits, stakeholder meetings, and workshops, and two rounds of interactive mapping with more than 1,500 comments and thousands of votes. This input directly informed the draft plan.
As part of sharing the draft for public review, the university also distributed the announcement through a campuswide all-employee email in addition to the press release to broaden awareness beyond those already engaged in the process.
It’s also important to clarify what this plan is, and what it is not. Moving Forward Together is a long-range planning framework. It outlines the types of improvements UC Davis may pursue over time and helps position the university to compete for state and federal funding. It is not a commitment to deliver specific projects.
Also, engagement does not end with this draft release. As individual projects move forward there will be additional opportunities for engagement.
Would the university consider extending the deadline?
The deadline is tied to timelines driven by the grant funding associated with this current planning effort. That said, community input does not end with this deadline. There will be additional opportunities for engagement as projects are developed.
Response to concerns about West Campus being excluded / missing Appendix L
West Campus is not excluded from the plan. Due to formatting and scale limitations, it is not fully shown in the PDF maps, but it is included in the companion StoryMap, where most of the campus network can be viewed.
The appendices, including those referenced in the draft, are still being finalized and will be included with the complete release of the plan.
Would UC Davis be amenable to extending the deadline and/or working with advocates on more outreach in West Campus?
While we are not extending the deadline, we are always open to continued engagement. Again, the MFT plan is about the types of improvements UC Davis may pursue over time and helps position the university to compete for state and federal funding. It is not a commitment to deliver specific projects.
