In this edition of The Golden Road, we feature one of the best live performances by The Grateful Dead from the year 1990...and that is saying something! In the "Dead World", 1990 will long serve as a testament to the band's wonderful ensemble playing at date after date after date. They were playing so hot that they decided to bring along a multi-track recorder and film crews to many locations on their infamous Spring Tour on the East Coast to capture the sounds.
On March 29, the band invited jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis to join them on stage at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. Without so much as a single minute of rehearsal, The Grateful Dead and Marsalis took flight and presented an evening of improvisational music for the ages. In this broadcast you will be treated to the wonderful sounds recorded live that evening in Uniondale. This week features the front half of the performance and next week will offer the conclusion which ends with a gorgeous version of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door".
Also included in this broadcast are a couple of cuts from the new release, "Once In A Blue Moon" by the David Nelson Band. Thanks to John Capitanio for the loan!
Enjoy!
