For this edition of The Golden Road, we are joined in the K-DIRT studio by Lee Maddex. The material on this broadcast was hand picked by Lee under one of The Golden Road credos...."you pick 'em, i'll play 'em!".
The sounds on this particular show are an excellent look at The Grateful Dead in all their 1970 glory...the first portion of the broadcast is an all-acoustic performance from Chet Helms' Family Dog Ballroom out on San Francisco's Great Highway. The band billed themselves as Bobby Ace and the Cards From The Bottom of the Deck and Mickey Hart & The Heartbeats so they didn't have a room full of fans expecting a typical live Dead show from that era.
The second portion of the broadcast is the back half of one of the band's most legendary performances from the Fillmore East on 2/14/70. An electric powerhouse which included a short-lived tune in their repetoire by the name of Mason's Children. Seek out the rest of the show...you won't be sorry for the effort!
Enjoy!
