28. Pharmacists preventing medication mix‑ups from Melbourne

Thu, 02/26/2026 - 7:42pm | Dr. Shaikh

Mapping Healthcare Ep 28.png

Transitions of care from hospital to home are some of the riskiest moments in a person’s healthcare journey. Medication lists change, high‑risk medications require careful monitoring, and patients often deal with overwhelming amounts of instructions. Linda Graudins tells us how pharmacists help people on complex medication regimens navigate these challenges safely. We’ll look at a process called medication reconciliation which is a bit like medication detective work and helps pharmacists keep those potentially dangerous transitions from home to hospital and back to your home, smooth and safe.

9 a.m. 2/27 update: The streaming link is working again, and most KDRT shows produced this week are now available online. We're still working on underlying technical issues. Thank you for your patience, and thanks for listening to KDRT

Prior message posted on 2/26 follows:

KDRT’s latest programs are currently unavailable online. It’s a technical problem, we’re working to fix it, and we will post an update once we have solved it.

Shows are still being broadcast at their scheduled times, so if you’re within range of our signal in Davis, you can listen that way. You can also live-stream programs using our secondary link at http://davismedia.org:8000/kdrt

Programs are still being recorded, and will appear online once we get our system working properly. This problem affects only KDRT programs broadcast (or normally posted) starting Monday, Feb. 23. Shows prior to that date remain available online.

Hello Davis!, Feb. 25, 2026: The legal and moral aspects of facial recognition

Thu, 02/26/2026 - 11:03am | Pieter Pastoor

Nick Buxton.jpeg

Today's subject is facial recognition, a biometric AI technology that maps facial features from photos or video to verify or identify individuals by comparing them against a database. It operates in three main steps: capturing an image, measuring landmarks (like distance between eyes) to create a digital signature, and comparing it to stored.

The question is, should the public be aware and approve of our facial recognition being used for any number of activities?

Nick Buxton is interviewed by David Abramson. Nick is the communications manager for the Transnational Institute. He is the founding editor of its yearly State of Power Report, which looks at global power dynamics on key issues such as finance, digitalization, corporations, and more. He is also a Davis resident, husband, and father.

Davisville, Feb. 23, 2026: From gray walls at MIT to colors in California

Mon, 02/23/2026 - 5:30pm | Bill Buchanan

DFC Feb. 19, 2026.jpeg

Davis architect Maria Ogrydziak, whose designs include the Davis Food Co-op building (pictured) on G Street downtown, was born in Stockholm to Estonian parents, lived in Taiwan for two years while growing up, and began to make her mark as an architect when she recreated a gray classroom at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology — her alma mater — “to be more exciting, more inspiring.” Architectural faculty supported her, she says, MIT planners were apprehensive, and the outcome helped her win election as student body president the next year.

Today on Davisville we talk about housing, architecture, designing in Davis, and the influence of California's Central Valley on her work. It's no accident that a big tomato sculpture sits in front of the Co-op.

Ogrydziak is also part of Yolo Community Builders, and last appeared on Davisville in June 2025 with YCB Executive Director Bill Pride.
