Listening Lyrics for June 6, 2014 with TWO TRACK MIND

When I saw TWO TRACK MIND perform I knew I had to have them on the show - Six months later the dream comes true.

Two Track Mind is the new musical duo featuring the amazing Matt Rowley and the incomparable Brian Souders.

Matt Rowley is a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, composer and teacher who lives in the Sacramento area. His solo performances include electronic augmentation and improvisation creating a dynamic and exciting performance that includes material spanning 5 decades and many different styles and influences including his own compositions and interpretations of well-known and not-so-well-known songs.

Brian Souders is a harmonica player, vocalist, and percussionist with a love for raw blues and sounds from the streets. His solo performance includes a loop-station and several octaves of harmonicas along with hand shakers and stomp boxes to create a fusion of funk blues and beats referred to as harp-boxing. Brian's combination of these elements with improvisation and precision playing is truly exiting.

Listening Lyrics May 2, 2014 with Greg Glazner

Greg Glazner is a guitarist and vocalist at work on a CD with his band, Professor Len and the Big Night. Listening Lyrics had the pleasure of seeing his band perform and believe me its straight out blues. Greg Glazner is also the author of two books of poetry, From the Iron Chair and Singularity, both published by W.W. Norton.  Excerpts from his recently-completed novel, Opening the World, have appeared in Ploughshares, Poetry, The Colorado Review, Seneca Review, Idaho Review, and other magazines.  His awards include the Bess Hokin Award from Poetry, The Walt Whitman Award, and a 2005 NEA Fellowship.  He is the Distinguished Visiting Poet for Wichita State University, winter of 2012, and for spring 2012, a visiting writer at UC Davis.  He is a longstanding member of the faculty of Pacific Lutheran University’s low-residency MFA program.

Listening Lyrics April 18, 2014 with guest FEATHERWEIGHT

Featherweight is an American "rock" band based in Sacramento, CA. I put the word rock in quotes because these young musicians are more than rock. They have a unique capacity to create a rich sound around their writing capabilities. The vocals in their music are a rare gift that grab your ears. A fusion of sound that has earned them the respect in the music scene in Northern California.

Listening Lyrics is thrilled that they are this weeks guest.

Listening Lyrics April 11, 2014 Special show with VANDAVEER

Special guest hosts Sara and Dan ( of the Awesome Patrol Show fame) will host this edition of Listening Lyrics. Their guest will be VANAVEERVANDAVEER is the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project penned and put forth by folk-pop tunesmith Mark Charles Heidinger. Born in cloudy Ohio, raised in Kentucky, and currently camped out in the nation's capital, Vandaveer offers up melodic Americana that is both haunting and easy, forlorn and welcoming, with stories as universal as the songs they inhabit.

Listening Lyrics April 4, 2014 (4:00PM) with THE SPOKES

The Spokes are UC Davis' only all-female a cappella group and can often be found singing on campus and around the town of Davis.

The Spokes have taken performance tours throughout California, stopping in places like Los Angeles, Berkeley, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco. Their goals for the future include broadening their already diverse repertoire, performing as much as possible, and bringing a cappella music back into the mainstream. Just as a bicycle wheel cannot spin without all its spokes, this all-female, all-fabulous group depends on the dedication of every girl to achieve its goals and remain one of Northern California’s most unique and talented music groups!

UNDERWRITING - Helping the grass roots grow

We acknowledge business contributions to KDRT with brief on-air messages called underwriting. Underwriting is to community radio what advertising is to commercial radio. The difference, however, is clear: Commercial stations may air as much as 18 minutes of advertising time per hour. KDRT airs less than one minute of underwriting per hour, which means our underwriters aren't lost in a sea of commercial hype.
