Jazz Mainstreams

Jazz Mainstreams is a weekly half-hour program showcasing important musicians and recordings of American jazz: from ragtime, New Orleans and swing to bebop and beyond.

I've drawn on my collection, going back over 60 years, and included the likes of Lu Watters, Mahalia Jackson, Big Joe Turner, Jimmie Witherspoon, Lord Buckley, Junior Mance, Gene Harris, Stan Kenton, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band , Tom Kubis and Jessica Williams.

For two years my co-host was Pete Basofin. For the next five Fridays (May1-29) I will present encores of some of his shows. I did my last live show on April 24.

I would be very glad to hear from anyone who would like to do a show on KDRT, specfically presenting jazz music from the oldest to the newest. Typically, KDRT programs are thirty or sixty minutes long and scheduled for once a week.

It's a lot of fun, really, and you get to it as a volunteer as are all of us deejays and programmers.
