3rd Streaming, March 17, 2021: Some St. Paddy's Day Irish selections, then Bach and Broadway

3rd Streaming salutes St. Paddy's  Day this week with an initial hour featuring Irish music. The second hour includes Ralph Vaughn Williams' English Folk Song Suite, then a bit of Bach, but Bach, JAZZY! He was born March 21, 1685, so we also salute his birthday. The late, great French jazz pianist, Jacques Loussier, plays. One of Jean Sibelius' immense symphonies is on tap during the second hour, as well as an exciting Broadway hit show overture written by Jule Styne.

3rd Streaming now airs live on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 PM, with replays Saturdays 7-9 PM, and Tuesdays 9-11 PM.

3rd Streaming for Mar 3rd, 2021

This week's 3rd Streaming features a birthday remembrance for Kurt Weill, who was born March 2,1900.   Weill was a German (later American ) composer who earned a Tony Award for Best original Score and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.  Lady Day will sing Kurt's most well-known song "Speak Low."  I'll also drop in a string orchestra arrangement of Chick Corea's "No Mystery."  The piece first came out on an album of Chick's in 1975 that was a Grammy winner.  The arrangement is by a conductor who leads the Bulgarian State Symphony on the recording.

3rd Streaming Feb 24th, 2021: Brubeck to Barber and Beyond

From Brubeck to Barber, jazz to classical, and a generous helping of film music classics too - that's the mix for this week's 3rd Streaming with Gary Chew. The list starts off with Cole Porter, Howard Brubeck, David Diamond, Jean Sibelius. The latter part of the 2nd hour has been programmed this week especially  for film lovers.  Three significant composers of music for cinema are included:  Alexandre Desplat, Max Steiner & a man you might not know well by name only:  Herman Hupfeld.  But you DO know of a song he wrote for one of Hollywood's truly classic pictures.

Excellent show with a wide variety of music. I particularly like the symphonic works you play, including the rarely heard symphonies by 20th century masters.
