Uncle John's Band |
Hello Golden Road listeners! In this editon of our weekly trip, we set the wayback machine for December 26, 1979 and an excellent performance by the band at the Oakland Auditorium Arena (subsequently renamed the Henry J. Kaiser Arena). In the latter part of '79, the new keyboardist, Brent Mydland was settled in with the band and they were in a really cool place playing some solid rock n' roll and ready to fly to some new places as well. This show also set the hook for Bill Graham to bring in the Dead for multi-night runs at the arena and essentially began the tradition of Dead Heads gathering in one location for a few days and setting up a gypsy-esque scene that really was a new cultural adventure.
Some great material here...seek out the rest of the shows from this run as they are all splendid!
