Davis Odd Fellows start the 2014 Thursday Live! concert series on February 6th at 7:30 p.m.
We have 2 bands with 2 very different styles of playing the Blues, Clarence Van Hook & The Hucklebucks.
Clarence Van Hook will open the show playing his deep, rich, soulful, Southern Blues style.
Clarence has been entertaining audiences in the Bay Area and beyond since the '60s. His guitar style is a tasty blend of Gumbo, Country, Gospel, and Blues. With influences such as Lightnin' Hopkins, Willie Nelson, and Jimmy Reed, Clarence has honed his own particular style of guitar playing. Clarence has played with Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee and was Johnny Otis' sidekick both on stage and on Johnny's KPFA radio show.
The Hucklebucks, winner of 2 SAMMIE Awards for Best Blues Band, is a jumping Blues Band from Sacramento. Their music was born in the South, left New Orleans for Chicago, swung through Kansas City, shuffled through Texas and emerged on the California party scene with a groovy, danceable beat.
"The Hucklebucks play an unmistakable California style. The band swings hard all the way" - The Blues Review
Doug Crumpacker has led the band for 15 years. He is a great performer and has written many of the songs that have appeared on their 4 Cd's. Robert Sidwell is a Blues veteran who has played with many of the greats. Jim Monroe loves early New Orleans R&B and Rock-n-Roll piano. Tim Weber, on drums, and Dale Lyberger, on bass, hold down the solid rhythm section with many years of playing the Blues.
Thursday Live! is sponsored each month by the Davis Odd Fellows Music and Concert Committee with help from KDRT.
