Yolo Land Trust honors Richard and Evelyne Rominger at
“A Day in the Country” at Taber Ranch Vineyard on September 8
(Woodland, CA) – The Yolo Land Trust announces that Richard and Evelyne Rominger will be honored at the Yolo Land Trust’s annual fundraising event – A Day in the Country – on September 8, 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Yolo Land Trust will also be celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Richard Rominger was a founding member and the first President of the Yolo Land Trust. He is a fourth generation Yolo County farmer, and served as the Deputy Secretary at the U. S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC for eight years during the Clinton Administration. Prior to that, Richard was the Director (Secretary) of the California Department of Food and Agriculture from 1977 to 1982.
Last year, the U. S. Department of Agriculture honored Richard by naming the first floor conference room at the USDA California Office, Davis, the “Richard Rominger Conference Room.” In accepting the honor, Richard said, “It wouldn't be possible for me to do all these things without Evelyne or the rest of our family.”
Evelyne Rominger was raised south of Davis on a dairy farm. She and Richard met while both were students at UC Davis and they have been married for 62 years. Evelyne has been a very active community member her entire life, starting with Dixon 4-H Club and as the student body vice president of Davis High School. Governor Edmund G. Brown appointed Evelyne to the Commission of the Californias in 1962. She has been active in several health associations, including as the founding board member of the Yolo County Mental Health Association.
Richard and Evelyne continue their community service by serving on many board and associations, locally as well as state-wide.
“We are honored to recognize Richard and Evelyne Rominger for their years of dedication and service to the Yolo Land Trust and our community,” said Kathy Ward, President of the Yolo Land Trust Board of Directors. “Rich provided the vision and leadership for the Yolo Land Trust’s formation in 1988 and we are thrilled he and Evelyne will celebrate the Land Trust’s 25th anniversary with us.”
A Day in the Country will be held Taber Ranch Vineyard and Event Center in Capay from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Plainfield Pickers will provide music. Over 20 restaurants and 10 wineries will be serving delicious food and wine. A kids’ corner and silent auction will also be available. Silent auction items include passes to Disneyland and California Adventure, Mondavi tickets for the San Francisco Symphony, a jeep tour of Yolo Land & Cattle Co. ranch and many others.
The Yolo Land Trust is looking forward to reconvening the first board of directors at A Day in the Country. “We want to thank the first board of directors for getting the Land Trust started,” said Michele Clark, Executive Director of the Yolo Land Trust. “Thanks to their foresight, today there are over 10,000 acres of farmland in Yolo County permanently conserved. It is a stunning accomplishment.”
