Thursday Live! is back on October 4th after taking an end of summer break. Three of the top Jazz entertainers
in the Sacramento area will play, Tony Passarell Trio, Eve West Bessier, and the Ross Hammond Trio.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall located at 415 Second Street. Admission is free and
all ages are welcome.
Tony Passarell is a Sacramento based saxophonist and keyboardist who has performed for over 30 years. His
most important musical influences are Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Thelonius Monk and Charles Mingus.
Many of Tony's favorite soul, jazz and rock bands include: Sons of Champlin, Cold Blood, Al Green, James
Brown, The Clash, Elvis Costello and Sly and the Family Stone.
Other groups Tony has been featured member in are: Race!!!, John Tchicai, Alex Jenkins' Sound Immersion,
Ganbare Spirits Ensemble, Dutch Falconi and his Twisted Orchestra, The Borman Six, Free Association and
many more.
Keith Cary will be joining Tony. Keith is a much heralded Luthier and string player from Winters, CA.
He has performed with many groups including Jolie Holland, Alkali Flats, John Tchicai and many more.
Also joining Tony will be Bart van der Zeeuw a much sought after percussionist from Davis, CA. who
performs with many groups in California and Europe.
Eve West Bessier is Davis’ Poet Laureate. She is the Yolo County Area Coordinator for California Poets in the
Schools, a jazz vocalist, voice coach and life coach. Eve has worked with numerous local musical projects.
Some of Eve’s projects and bands she’s been seen with are: The Eve West Jazz Quartet, Hardwater, Joe Craven
11-11, Bill Scholer Blues Band, John Tchicai, The Free Association, Brazilian Ensemble Cochichando and
West Coast Rhythm Section.
For Thursday Live! Eve will be presenting original poetry mixed with vocal improvisations to the live jazz
stylings of Ross Hammond. In addition her group, West of the Moon, will play a tropical blend of jazz and
Latin jazz with multilingual vocals and a pinch of spicy, original material. Her trio includes Shawn Hale (bass)
and Dax Compise (drums).
Ross Hammond is a guitarist, improviser and composer living in Sacramento, CA. Ross says that he never
really knows how to answer when people ask what type of music he plays. It's rooted in Jazz and Folk, Rock
and Soul. Ross has been known to play a lot of acoustic, roots based music with other like-minded folks. He
has also written music for films and other art projects.
A few of the groups Ross has either led or been a part of are: Ross Hammond Quartet (Vinny Golia, Alex
Cline and Steuart Liebig), Electropoetic Coffee (poet NSAA), Lovely Builders (Scott Amendola), V Neck
(Tom Monson) and Amy Reed. Scott also runs a Monday Night Jazz series in Sacramento at Luna's Cafe called
Nebraska Mondays.
