At the June 7th Thursday Live! show we will pay tribute to our dear friend & Odd Fellow brother, Marty Martinez. Marty passed away recently. Many of you probably remember him behind the bar each month. He was the rakish Argentinian who always had a smile and piece of wisdom to go with your beer.
We will sorely miss this kind and wonderful man.
Zorelli and Calvin Handy and The Jazz Patrol are the 2 local bands playing this month.
ZORELLI, is a multi-instrumental Sacramento & Davis based band who play play a range of tropically infused music including everything from Reggae, Salsa, and Calypso to Soul, Funk, and Jazz. Their music is contagious.
Zorelli recently released their newest CD entitled "Zorelli”. The CD features Wendell Fishman on keyboards, Rick Montgomery on steel-drum and kalimba, Keith Cline on saxophones and EWI (electronic wind instrument), Darren Virassammy on bass, Andrew Enberg on drums, Ron Cowden on guitar, and Warren Jones on percussion. The CD includes original compositions by Fishman, Virassammy, and Cline. Music samples from the new CD and upcoming show listings can be found on their Facebook page "Zorelli Music", and also their webpage www.Zorellimusic.com.
The musical style of THE JAZZ PATROL is focused on jazz standards, Latin, and Funk grooves. Offering a laid-back expression in their music, the quintet creates its own arrangements from Be-bop, straight ahead, Jazz ballads, mellow Bossa, and R&B tunes composed by the jazz masters and purveyors of funk.
Calvin Handy leads the band on tenor saxophone, and regular performers with The Jazz Patrol include Dean McGee, trumpet; Robert Blake, guitar, Professor Travis Bradley, bass, and Jeff Minnieweather, drums.
“Folks who hear us perform always highlight our smooth and moving approach to jazz ballads,” says Handy. “We try to keep it simple”, says Handy.
The shows start at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall located at 415 Second Street.
Thursday Live! is a continuing series of concerts held the first Thursday of every month at the
