Thursday Live! features local women musicians

Rita Hosking, will headline the April 5th Thursday Live! Opening up the evening will be Sandy
Coldiron.

The shows start at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall located at 415 Second Street.

Thursday Live! is a continuing series of concerts held the first Thursday of every month at the
Davis Odd Fellow Hall. All shows are free and open to all ages.

Rita Hosking is a descendant of Cornish miners who sang in the mines. She grew up with
deep regard for folk music and the power of the voice. Rita's songs have been lauded for story
and sense of place, and her performances praised for capturing the audience. Honors include
winner of Best Country Album (Vox Pop) in the 2010 Independent Music Awards, winner
of the '08 Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest at the Sisters Folk Festival, finalist in
the '09 Telluride Troubadour Contest, and others as well. "There’s a grit to her songs and sinewy
toughness to her voice that weave their own spell," (Q Magazine.)

“In scorching form” (UK Telegraph), Northern California’s own Rita Hosking sings of forest
fires, culture clash, demolition derbies, the working class and hope. With major US music
festivals to Bob Harris’s BBC show, Rita is moving audiences around the globe with her stories
in song and doubly sweet and sinewy voice, “a captivating performer,” (R2 Magazine.)

Rita's new release, Burn, is a fiery follow-up to Come Sunrise, which won Best Country Album
Vox Pop in the 2010 Independent Music Awards. From Uncut Magazine, “Fourth album [Burn]
confirms the poetic Californian’s arrival into the country pantheon,” to an Oregonian reviewer’s
words, “a sledgehammer to my heart” (Frank Gutch Jr.), most new listeners will agree with
Rita’s fans who call her “the real deal.” Burn was recently placed in the top 10 “Young Female
Artist releases for 2011” by No Depression magazine, and listed as one of the "Hidden Gems of
2011" by the UK's Observer.

Accompanying Rita will be Sean Feder with melodic banjo, Dobro (resophonic
guitar) and vocal harmonies, and Bill Dakin on upright bass and harmonies.

Sandy Coldiron’s music has been referred to as “IndieTorch-Folk”. The richly somber chords
of Sandy’s guitar are combined with her sultry and emotionally provocative voice. Her lyrics
are insightful and honest. Sandy’s listeners often find something in her music that relates to their
own lives.

In the early nineties, Sandy joined the Rock band The Love Marines (with Brian Knave, Gerry
Pineda, and Dave Webb). She has performed with several musicians including Rick Zamora,
Jan Peters, Cathy Speck (of Duval Speck), and the Dick Livingston Trio. In the beginning of
new millennium Sandy formed a Folk-Rock band called Sandy Coldiron and the Bitter End. Her
current group is also a Folk-Rock group called The Jilted Lovers with Erin Wall, Josh Monley
and Rich Livingston.

Thursday Live! is sponsored each month by the Davis Odd Fellows Music Committee with help
from KDRT.

Upcoming shows include: Biscuits and Honey, Misner and Smith, Hardwater, and Zorelli.
