Thursday Live! at the Davis Odd Fellows Hall featuring Hardwater and The Mike Justis Band

Thursday Live! welcomes Hardwater and The Mike Justis Band on August 2nd. Both bands feature some of the best local musical talent around.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. The Davis Odd Fellows Hall is located at 415 Second Street. Admission is free and there will be beer, wine and sodas for sale. All ages are welcome.

Hardwater has been performing regularly for over 10 years at venues and festivals in the Sacramento, Solano, Yolo, Placer and El Dorado county areas. The band plays a rather eclectic (OK, “random”) mix of favorite tunes, or at least those that all six can agree on. Most of the material is pulled from that narrow time frame between the mid 1960’s and the early 2010’s. Listeners can expect a blend of rock, blues, folk and American roots, and almost always a healthy dose of tunes from the likes of Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Mark Knopfler and Counting Crows among others. The band brings its own mellifluous sound and arrangements to the music rather than shamelessly mimicking the originals, but quite likely this is more a result of failing memory than any rigid ideology.

The band consists of John Swann on guitar & vocals; Bob Lindley on violin, baritone violin & electric mandolin; Johnny Flores on drums and percussion; Rob Gonzales on bass; Richard Day on guitar and harmonica and newest (and by far youngest) member Kat Bowden on vocals and mandolin.

Singer/songwriter Mike Justis and his band, based in Northern California, have been playing their unique brand of folk, blues, and Americana music for over thirty years. Mike’s debut album, “Barroom Philosopher”, was recorded in 2008. His latest album, “One Foot In”, was released earlier this year. Both albums offer up eclectic styles of original music. Flatpicking Guitar Magazine selected Mike’s song “On the Modoc Line” for their 2012 “Songwriters Sampler” CD. The Mike Justis Band consists of longtime friends Kathy Barwick, playing mandolin, resophonic guitar and vocal harmonies, and Steve McLane, playing electric and acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies. Often, during live performances the band is amped up with bassists Steve O’Neil and Jeff Sears. Mike believes that the outstanding musicians who play with him have brought his songs alive with their extraordinary creative styles. The live shows are where the music comes alive!

Thursday Live! concerts are the first Thursday of each month. If you would like to be notified of upcoming shows please email Juelie Roggli at juelrog@gmail.com or call (530) 219-5444.
