Bonanza King and Biscuits and Honey @ Thursday Live!

Two step your way down to the Davis Odd Fellows Hall for the Thursday Live! Western Swing and Bluegrass
show on April 4th. The hall is located at 415 Second Street. Bonanza King and Biscuits and Honey will perform
for free. The show starts at 7:30 and all ages are welcome.

“Western Swing is a first for Thursday Live! We’re really excited to add it to the long list of musical genres
we’ve had at the hall”, says Juelie Roggli, Odd Fellows music committee member.

Bonanza King hails from that town to the West of Davis, Winters. This is an eclectic country swing band
brilliantly fronted by singer Kari King. Band member Keith Cary says, “We play a wide variety of country-
related stuff, most of it danceable and much of it written by Kari. She’s not just making this stuff up, folks. I
think it all happened to her, hopefully a few years ago”. Their influences include rag-time, old jazz, blues, and
many forms of country music. King, a Blues singer for decades who recently has been performing Bluegrass,
assembled the band herself.

King has assembled a fine group of fellow musicians who were thrilled to be asked to join her. Besides King
as lead singer and guitarist, the group features Keith Cary on lap steel, Steve O’Neil on bass, Roger Kunkle on
fiddle and mandolin, Bruce Brewer on drums and Cedar Seegar on guitar.

In addition to old country standards, Bonanza King plays originals too with titles like, “Don’t Think it Ain’t
Been Fun, Dear, Because it Ain’t” and “I Laugh When I Think How I Cried Over You.”

Besides the Bonanza King, Brewer and Seeger play with the Phantom Rhythm Kings. Steve O’Neil toured
with California Zephyr and currently plays with Yolo Mambo. Keith Cary is a master of many instruments,
including his own invention called the “commodion”. He frequently performs with Miss Lonely Hears and Bob
Armstrong.

Opening the show will be Bluegrass/Folk band, Biscuits and Honey. Joining them is their newest member,
fiddle player Florie Brown.

Biscuits and Honey play bluegrass/folk music with close vocal harmonies and first-rate acoustic musicianship.
Lead guitar player, Kurt Roggli, has performed in Akimbo! a popular world-beat band as well as reggae, and
blues bands. He is also half of the acoustic duo Me & Him. Kurt plays both electric and acoustic guitars. He is
inspired by Tony Rice, Doc Watson, Chet Atkins, the Beatles, Fela Kuti, John Scofield and Albert Lee.

Dianna sings with Frankie and the Fabletones, a doo wop group, and was one of the female singers with
Akimbo, another Davis based band. She is also part of the duo, Voice of the Wood an Educational performance
group who tell stories to children.

Ron Cowden on upright bass has played everything from jazz to Caribbean to Elvis. You can see Ron next
month at Thursday Live! with Watermelon Music’s band Honeybadgers. Ron started playing piano at age 5 and
later added guitar and bass. He added singing to his musical repertoire and adds the 3rd harmony to Biscuits
and Honey.
