A mistaken delivery in Mumbai’s famously efficient lunchbox delivery system connects Ila (Nimrat Kaur), a lonely housewife in an unhappy marriage, with Saajan Fernandes (Irrfan Khan), a lonely widower about to retire from a long career as an accountant. Through daily notes passed back and forth in the lunchbox Ila and Sajaan develop a friendship and find comfort in each other’s stories, confessions and fantasies for the future – though they never meet.
