Chambers Street Theatre

Join host Ruth Chambers as she shares stories from 1800 to 1920 in the dialogue and dialects of the time as written by the authors. You'll hear Gold Rush and Wild West Stories, Tall Tales, and plenty of Mark Twain. Some of the stories were written by the reader herself! Tune in, sit back, and enjoy a taste of simpler times.

This show has a few false starts but hang in there and after a few announcements you will get to the "Christmas Pudding."

Nearing the Winter Holiday time, Ruth reads "The Christmas Pudding" from her book "The Weight of Gold."  The story takes place up in the gold hills of California in a mining camp.  Some snow bound, rain soaked miners are preparing a Christmas Pudding to remind them of home.

Chambers Street Theatre for 11am on Dec 5th, 2013

This is the 91st show on KDRT and it's the Winter Holiday Show: "The Christmas Pudding" written by Ruth Chambers.  It's December and it's time for a Christmas Pudding.  The story is from the California Gold Rush of 1849 up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with rain and snow.  Miners in Red Dog Camp are preparing a Christmas Pudding for a touch of home on Christmas Eve.

Chambers Street Theatre for 11am on Nov 21st, 2013

It's November so we're doing Thanksgiving shows.  This is our 3rd Thanksgiving show and what are we thankful for?  This show covers the verse for children from the 1700's to about 1850.  Yes, we are thankful for children who are loved in a family that wanted children.  Some verses read today are warnings and others are playful.  That was the style of those times.

Next week we cover 1850 to now in verse.

Chambers Street Theatre for 11am on Nov 14th, 2013

This is our 89th show on KDRT, and it's part of the Thanksgiving series of shows.  This show is Children's Verse from the 1800's because one of the things to be thankful for is children with all their joy and fun even if children at times can be very annoying.  The verse covers the full range of animal verse, fun verse, and behavior warning verse.  Families will enjoy this half hour together with Children's Verse from the 1800's.

Chambers Street Theatre for 11am on Oct 31st, 2013

It's October 31st, Halloween, and we're doing a repeat of the "Tarantula Show."  Ruth starts with "what are Tarantulas" from Wikipedia then it's on to "Roughing It" by Mark Twain and his  time in Carson City before he was famous.  He's in a dorm like third floor with other men and the Tarantulas get out in the dark, of course.  Lot's of fun.

Thanks to all the folk I meet in town who recognize my voice and say how much they like my show. I like every one of you and we always have a nice chat about Mark Twain. You all are the best of people.

Here's our offering for your collection.  It's an ode to our kitty Katie ...

A wonderfully warm Katie Cat

would come running whenever you sat.

She'd rumble and purr,

and had wonderful fur

to cuddle and nuzzle and pat.
