Nana is a "we wish it was real" kind of made-up character who becomes more real than real. Then Ruth reads a short section about a real animal who protects her kittens and stands guard against a too large visitor to Ruth's front porch. Fiction and truth...it's all in the writing and "Peter Pan" lives forever, and Nana lives on every page.
