City of Davis wildlife expert on That's Life

John McNerney, Wildlife Resource Specialist for the City of Davis, is the guest on That's Life with Lois Richter.    On this fascinating show, they talk about managing wildlife habitat in Davis, how planning for wildlife happens, where wildlife typically occur, and what types of animals- both wild and domestic- have an impact on Davis.    John will be revisiting KDRT sometime in August to discuss the "hidden ecosystems" of Davis, as well as taking your questions.     Stay tuned and learn about "neighbors" you likely never knew you had!

What about "high blood sugar"? (ERROR in analogy, see later show for a better description of blood circulation)

What does "high blood sugar" mean?

How does your body work to feed your cells? What are the most common things that can go wrong with that process?

WHY should one "Eat less and exercise more"? What does that really mean?

Lois had all these questions.  So, being Lois, she interviewed everyone she could and synthesized the answers she got from doctors, nutritionists, physical therapists, and readings.  Here is her attempt to translate the techical jargon into normal English with analogies that make sense.

(ERROR in analogy, see later show for a better description of blood circulation)

This is NOT a diagnosis or prescription.  This IS Lois' success story of bringing down her own blood sugar levels (since last fall) and getting healthier.  Sharing the infomation she found is important to Lois; hoping some of that info will help others understand their own bodies better is the goal.

Mary Schiedt: Birds, Bats, and Banter (That's Life, 30June 2016, interview by Lois Richter)

Mary Schiedt

This week Lois' friend Mary Schiedt comes over to chat with her about birds, Yolo Basin Wetlands, and life in general.  Always a fun, casual session of smiles and rambling, these two never know what topic will come up or where some discussion might lead.  Mary is very knowledgeable about birds, birding, and the natural world; as well as being smart, funny, and able to play with words. (Any time you see Mary is presenting a talk, it's well worth being there!  Her "Bat Talks" are a special treat; as are her beginning birding tours at California Duck Days.)  Nothing earth-shaking on today's show; just some good info, light laughter, and lots of smiling.
