KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Yolo Backyard Bulletin (YBB) seeks to address the ongoing demolition of local media by the communications/entertainment complex, which prioritizes profit maximization at the expense of local engagement and conversation. YBB features local news, commentary, music, gossip, and true stories from Yolo County, with the goal of rebuilding and restoring community communications in our public sphere, the lifeblood of democratic life.

That's Life

Lois Richter’s format for That’s Life is mostly interviews. Recurring topics include Davis activities and groups; work and life choices; philosophy and theory; plus birding, cooking, art, and other passions. Lois occasionally breaks into music — from ballads to the slack key sounds of Hawaii to golden oldies rock 'n' roll — but mostly there is just talk.

At 2:01 a.m. Pacific Time on March 20, the sun crossed the plane of the equator, marking the vernal equinox and the start of spring! Across the centuries and cultures, the vernal equinox and coming of spring has not only had practical meaning (time to start sowing seeds, coming of hay fever season, etc.), but has also naturally been imbued with including meaning and symbolism -- Rebirth, Rejuvenation, Renewal, Love, Youth and the Passing of Darkness. Couldn't we all use a little bit of that right now?

On today's Audio Ecotone, we will celebrate those themes and the coming of spring with music old and new from Elvis Presley, The Flaming Lips, Blossom Dearie, Cibo Matto, Caroline Polarchek and a few other surprises. After a week with a lot of great music to be heard out and about locally, join In the Key of Folk, coming up, for an hour of musical reflections. We start off with a couple of tracks from the newly released album by Countercurrent, a duo from the Pacific Northwest. We'll also be covering new releases by hometown favorite Kora Feder, and by New Englanders Jean Rohe and Sean Kiely. We'll include tracks by Kalos, Paddy on the Binge, Mad Agnes, Evie Ladin, Tom Jutz and Eric Brace.
