ABOUT US

KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

The word "gospel" is derived for the old Anglo-Saxon word meaning “good message” or “good news." Host Preacher believes gospel music is powerful, whether the listener is or is not Christian — that everyone can enjoy listening to gospel because it is uplifting and inspiring, sung with passion and belief from the artist, touching all who hear it in a good and heartfelt way. The aim of Praise Time is to help listeners find what Preacher believes lives in everyone: a good spirit that drives us to be the best we can be.

In the Key of Folk with Karen Leyse offers music that will keep you humming or dancing along — perhaps both! The focus is on traditional and current folk music, Americana, and bluegrass, with Celtic, Nordic, and Spanish infusions — wherever Karen's travels and interests take her. Laura Legacki discusses the benefits of volunteering within the Yolo CASA organization. Laura, a long-time volunteer and training director at the nonprofit, shares stories about the bond formed with the foster child, and explains what is required of volunteers and the training they receive.

From Yolo CASA: "The heart of our program is the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), a specially trained and supervised community volunteer appointed by the judge. Research shows that just one consistent, stable, and healthy relationship significantly improves adult outcomes for foster children."

We're playing Disc 2: "After Hours" of Chillin' at the Playboy Mansion. This album is the soundtrack to the Post family's annual North Fork of Long Island end-of-summer vacay, and just hearing the needle drop on this thing is like a month of therapy and a week at the spa.

In this premiere episode, show host Pieter Pastoor interviews Dirk Brazil, a longtime active member of the communities he has lived in. His professional career has been in city government. He is a retired city manager for Davis, and also has his own radio show on KDRT, The Twang Thang.

The BBC recently commissioned singer-songwriters -- including Martyn Joseph, pictured here -- to pen ballads about ordinary people in northeast England who have done extraordinary things for their community. Joseph wrote "Albert's Place," a song about a soup kitchen and food bank in Sunderland run by Andrea Bell.

Also on today's show, Brother Bill celebrates Black History Month with songs by African-American country and western singers.
