KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Hosted by Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, Democracy Now is an award-winning syndicated news program that gives voice to perspectives rarely heard in corporate-sponsored media, including independent journalists, grassroots leaders and peace activists, artists, academics, independent analysts, and ordinary people from around the world.

Yolo Backyard Bulletin

Yolo Backyard Bulletin (YBB) seeks to address the ongoing demolition of local media by the communications/entertainment complex, which prioritizes profit maximization at the expense of local engagement and conversation. YBB features local news, commentary, music, gossip, and true stories from Yolo County, with the goal of rebuilding and restoring community communications in our public sphere, the lifeblood of democratic life.

In the Key of Folk with Karen Leyse offers music that will keep you humming or dancing along — perhaps both! The focus is on traditional and current folk music, Americana, and bluegrass, with Celtic, Nordic, and Spanish infusions — wherever Karen's travels and interests take her. The Artery co-op/gallery/store turns 50 this year. Most of its downtown Davis neighbors from the 1970s are gone, so how has the Artery lasted? Heidi Bekebrede and Adele Shaw, two of its members, list several reasons on today’s Davisville, and some might surprise you — they include the hours (most art galleries don’t open daily), the variety (most don’t display so many artists), members who work in the shop, turnover that brings in new artists, fresh displays, and a town with lots of people interested in the arts. The train station a block away helps too.

We also talk about the store’s name, how they find members, the other meaning of “cute” in Bekebrede’s Cuteware, the way Putah Creek inspires Shaw’s paintings, and how managing a 32-machine laundromat in San Francisco introduced Shaw to first- and second-hand stories of her neighborhood from many decades before.
