KDRT 95.7 FM is grassroots radio from Davis, CA, airing an eclectic mix of music and public-affairs programming. A project of nonprofit Davis Media Access, KDRT streams worldwide via KDRT.org.

Davis has interesting people, ideas, connections, and events. On Davisville, host Bill Buchanan presents stories that have some connection to Davis. The program has won 17 Excellence in Journalism awards from the San Francisco Press Club since 2018, including first place in radio/podcast public affairs programs for 2025, plus a national Hometown Media Award for excellence from the Alliance for Community Media in 2024. Each week, one of the follow local community organizations hosts the program in rotation, interviewing guests connected to their work — sharing stories, highlighting their programs, and offering a closer look at how they serve Davis.

Classical Excursions

Classical radio programs often focus on well-known light classics and ignore challenging and imaginative masterworks, especially from the rich repertoire of 20th century music, which is very diverse. This results in listeners who are unaware of many wonderful works. Excursions will present short and longer works by famous as well as less known composers, with insightful commentary by a composer with years of experience in radio, classical marketing, and music education.

Live on the first, third and occasional fifth Friday of the month.

Caden Velasquez is one of the founders (and driving force) of the Davis Rave Company (DRC). He joined Listening Lyrics this week to introduce us to the organization and to look into the underlying goals of a rave concert. In the DRC's words:

"Davis Rave Co. emerged from a rich culture of people who wanted to push the boundaries at the intersection of creative expression and live music. With both ambition and the willingness to adapt, DRC grew to become a full-service creative agency offering artist representation, event production, creative installation consulting, music recording, and so much more. The potential for creative expression is astronomical when ambitious and talented people unite."

It's not unusual for musicians' guitars to be lost or stolen. When the theft or loss involves a famous musician, it becomes "a story."

Local filmmakers debut Open Country on March 10 at Odd Fellows Hall -- a benefit for KDRT

Filmmakers Glenda and Jesse Drew of Davis made Open Country, a journey into the roots of American country, to reclaim the music as the creative expression of working people of all colors. The movie features interviews with well-known musicians, performances, archival clips and animation, and it sold out the venue when it recently screened in San Francisco.

The Drews will screen their movie in Davis Sunday, March 10, at the Odd Fellows Hall, doors 6 p.m.; show 6:30 p.m.; Q&A 8:15 p.m. All proceeds from ticket sales and donations will benefit KDRT. We hope to see you there! Tickets available online here. Keep reading to learn more:
