The Blues! Dead Wax Episode 12, Wed 1/7 at 5 PM

Join us for Dead Wax Episode 12 tonight at 5 pm. It’s the first show of 2015! Dick and Joe join me in the studio tonight to celebrate the blues. The early American blues scene from the 1920’s heavily influenced the British music scene of the 1960’s. While these “Invaders” maintained the lyrical content and musical form of the songs, they often played electric versions, sometimes at different tempos. The blues masters also influenced the American music scene of the 1960’s. Certainly the local Chicago and Mississippi delta blues scene pushed the interest of several key American acts, initially on a local level, and then eventually helping to facilitate the 1960’s wave of blues and psychedelic music, with the improvisation inherent in the delivery by these acts, especially live. We’ll play some of our favorite old time blues tunes on vintage vinyl, including tracks from Mississippi Fred McDowell (who wasn’t really from Mississippi), Blind Willie Johnson and Blind Boy Fuller (who were really blind). We’ll then play some of our favorite covers of their tunes from the 1960’s. Plus a few more modern blues tracks from our favorite guitarists. If you love the blues or 1960’s rock, you can’t miss this one!
