Davis City Council members Rochelle Swanson and Robb Davis are hosting a “listening tour” this spring to collect comments and questions from the Davis public about the proposals to build one or more innovation centers in town. Few people have turned out for the sessions, even though whatever gets decided could significantly change Davis in the areas of jobs, growth, public services and tax revenue. Here's some context, plus a sample of what they've heard so far.

I'm a journalist at heart, although I also spent 15 years working in tech and information security communications for UC Davis. I started Davisville in 2008 so I could interview people about events, stories and situations involving Davis. My guests so far include town leaders (elected and otherwise), UC Davis researchers, musicians (including three who played in the Byrds), a TV horror/sci-fi show host, businesspeople, a former Alcatraz convict, foster parents, students, people who work in the media, authors, a survivor of Auschwitz, a survivor of Jonestown, two World War II combat veterans, comics, the commander of the USS John McCain, a troop of Davis Girl Scouts who ditched their screens every night for a week, high-school reunion organizers -- basically, anyone doing something interesting with a connection to Davis.
