The Golden Road takes a fond look back at a honey of a show recorded live at the Oakland Auditorium Arena in December of 1979. Since there is never quite enough time in 2 hours to get an entire Live Dead show in, I cherry picked some excellent portions for your listening pleasure...my apologies to the completionists out there! Here is some cool prose from someone on a live music website that sums up a thing or two about 12/26/79:
"There are times where the music seems destined to rip apart at the seams, only to coalesce into something utterly startling in its power and clarity. Take, for example, a sequence coming out of "Estimated Prophet," that you're sure is going to segué into "Terrapin Station," but instead turns into a completely over-the-top jam that sounds like a little like a bluegrass tune gone mad, with musical references to everything from John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" to Isaac Hayes' "Theme From Shaft". "
Thanks for tuning in to K-Dirt & The Golden Road!
