This edition of The Grapevine features the "hipped up" sounds of the late 60's & early 70's Motown scene. Driven by changes in musical and social styles, Norm Whitfield and Barrett Strong penned a new Motown sound that groups like The Temptations were tailor made to deliver on. Also included in the broadcast are some choice selections from Marvin Gaye's epic record, "What's Goin' On".

August 27th/Update:

Need to correct myself...the masterful version of "Eyes Of The World" that is on this broadcast was NOT recorded live at Madison Square Garden as I indicated on the air. Spaced that one out like a champ! Bransford Marsalis joined the band at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island in March of 1990 for that one. "A thousand pardons, folks".

In this edition of The Golden Road, our journey takes us along the path of all those excellent multi-track official albums pulled from live performances from mid-1989 to March of 1990. "Without A Net", "Dozin' At The Knick", "Terrapin Station" and the newest release from GD Productions..."Crimson, White and Indigo", each captured the Grateful Dead cooking on all burners with top quality and spirited performances at nearly every stop on tour. Knowing that they were on top of their game, the band decided to record these stage shows in multi-track and also filmed a number of the shows as well...and us listeners are the better for it!

This edition of The Grapevine features the sounds and history of The Hucklebucks, a mainstay of the Sacramento blues scene for nearly 20 years. Led by founders Doug James and Robert Sidwell, The Hucklebucks have been "laying it down dirty and playing it back clean" on 4 studio albums and tons of live gigs much to the delight of area blues fans. Their latest release, "Jukebox Blues" can be heard on this broadcast along with highlights from their first 3 records..."Coastin'", "Everybody's In The Mood" and "Hip Shakin' Woman". And if you are ready for a night out on the town, don't miss the record release party for "Jukebox Blues" at The Torch Club in Sac Town on September 24.

This journey down the Golden Road is a plush ride with the wonderful variety of sounds created by Jerry Garcia during his musical lifetime. Jerry was born on August 1st and left us on August 9th...and for those that enjoyed his music, those are the "Days Between".

In this broadcast, you will hear the many styles that Jerry loved to play...not just with the Grateful Dead, but also with the many musical friends he made along the way. Thanks for listening!

The Golden Road returns to the incredible sounds created by the Grateful Dead in performances from 1973 (with a little '74 thrown in for good measure). We'll also take a trip through the fringes of the desert with a special listen to the wonderful album, "Caravanserai" by Santana, and a few well-placed brushstrokes by Miles.

The Soul Spectacular Special...The Grapevine swings through town in the heart of a good wanderin' to send out some sweet sounds on good ol' K-Dirt.

The Golden Road honors the legecy of "Summer Jam" - an immense gathering of humanity that got together at Watkins Glen, New York in July of 1973 to hear the Allman Brothers, The Band and the Grateful Dead on one bill. From all accounts, it was "something else" and survivor tales abound! Here, for your listening pleasure is a Watkins Glen West (37 years later) loose recreation of the day.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness on The Golden Road...we salute our nation's birthday by airing our annual 4th of July Special. Good for what ails ya, and an excellent soundtrack to help you celebrate Independence Day.

Highlights include the brand new release, "Crimson, White & Indigo" recorded live in July of 1989 in Philly at JFK Stadium, and Lord Buckley's classic take on the Boston Tea Party, "Get Hip To History".

Magical Music Box - The Dawn of Pye Records; Pye and then Dawn record labels welcomed adventuresome groups from the European Underground in the late 60's and early 70's. This show looks back on the likes of successful artists such as Donovan and Status Quo, but also on many of the bands that never reached commercial success, yet nevertheless created groundbreaking music.

Well, on this edition of The Grapevine, we take a plunge into the deep pool of spiritual salvation and the ever-lasting healing tones and words of Brother Ray Charles. Testify!!!

The Golden Road concludes it's special look & listen at the mighty 6/9/77 from San Francisco's fabled Winterland Arena (the first part of the featured broadcast aired on May 30, 2010 for those keeping score at home). From the exotic Estimated right through to the double encore of U.S. Blues and OMSN you will hear an hour of uninterrupted classic Grateful Dead.

The back half of this broadcast shines the light on one of the best true bands I have ever had the pleasure to see live on stage, The Hacienda Brothers. Take the time to listen to 'em...would love to hear your comments!

The Grapevine breaks out the blues for this broadcast...lots of vintage material with a special look at the excellent sounds that came out of Chicago on the legendary Chess record label. Don't make 'em like that no more!
