Mondavi Center Announces Russian National Orchestra Concert

DAVIS, CALIF.-The Robert & Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis announced that conductor Patrick Summers has withdrawn from the 2013 Russian National Orchestra tour. Giancarlo Guerrero, music director of the Nashville Symphony and principal guest conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra Miami Residency, will conduct the orchestra in his place on Sunday, February 17 at 7 p.m. The repertoire and soloist (pianist Daniil Trifonov) will remain the same. As music director of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Guerrero led the symphony to a second consecutive Grammy win with the recording of American composer Joseph Schwantner's Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra. His previous recording with the orchestra, Michael Daugherty's Metropolis Symphony and Deux Ex Machina, won three 2011 Grammy Awards, including Best Orchestral Performance. In recent seasons, Guerrero has appeared with many of the major North American orchestras, including the symphony orchestras of Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, San Diego, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the National Symphony in Washington, D.C.; as well as at several major summer festivals, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, Cleveland Orchestra at Blossom Music Festival and Indiana University summer orchestra festival.

Part of the Western Health Advantage Orchestra Series, the Russian National Orchestra will perform Smetana's Overture to The Bartered Bride, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, Op. 23 and Dvořák's Symphony No. 6 in D Major, Op. 60.
